Six Mile Creek in Bibb County, Alabama

Posted on May 18, 2021May 18, 2021 by admin

Six Mile Creek starts from the Margaret, Alabama area in St. Clair County and winds in a westerly direction till it arrives at the Little Cahaba River. It is about 20 feet wide at this spot down from Six Mile School Road – the bridge carrying State Road 25 over the creek is barely visible here. A historical marker at the intersection of the two identifies the original location of the Six Mile Male and Female Academy, founded in 1859 by the Baptist Church. The original main buildings are gone, but there are a few labelled smaller buildings, since the school functioned in some form until 1960, and the area now serves as a public park. This picture was taken from a path down to the creek from a spot about 50 feet up the School Road.
